What do DJs do live on stage?

I've seen videos of DJs, example such as deadmau5, and I've been wondering what they do onstage. Normal bands have people singing and playing instruments, but DJs use their computers (obviously). So do they just play a record or something, because I can imagine it's hard to re-create a whole mix live.
