Why is trance so popular in Europe?

I dont understand how some DJs have over 20,000 people showing up for music like that? Is it because of the atmosphere? A trance concert just looks like a humongous club so I guess it isnt so wierd. Im not saying trance is stupid im just trying to understand why its popular.
